Phil Steele Announces All-MAC Team, Honoring Nine Broncos

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The second round of postseason all-conference awards have been announced and Phil Steele's All-Mid-American Conference Team includes nine Broncos, the second-most selections of any MAC team, with four members of the WMU football team earning first team honors.

Louis Delmas, Austin Pritchard and Jamarko Simmons earned first team all-conference nods for the second time this year and were joined by Phillip Swanson on the first team offense after being named Third Team All-MAC Offense by the conference.  Delmas (100) and Pritchard (81) rank first and second, respectively, in tackles, while Simmons enters bowl season tied for the WMU record for receptions in a season (98) and needs 76 yards to break the single-season yardage mark.  Swanson has never missed a start in his 24-game career, working at left guard and left tackle over the past two seasons.

Phil Steele's All-MAC Second Team Offense chose WMU's Tim Hiller, while tight end Branden Ledbetter also earned second team offense on Phil Steele's list.  Brandon West was named Third Team All-MAC Offense at running back as he was selected by the MAC.  Hiller leads the MAC in all but one category and has captured WMU single-season marks in completions, attempts and touchdowns (tied).  Ledbetter is the only tight end Bronco history to have three seasons of six touchdowns.  West is 30 yards from becoming WMU's 15th 1,000-yard rusher and would give the Broncos their first 3,000-yard passer, 1,000-yard receiver and 1,000-yard rusher since the 1999 campaign.

Junior defensive tackle Cody Cielenski earned his first postseason accolade of 2008, garnering Second Team All-MAC Defense by Phil Steele's.  In nine games played in 2008, Cielenski racked up 31 tackles to go along with 9.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.  His TFL and sack totals are tied for second best on the team this season.  Londen Fryar, who led the team with five pass break ups in 2008, earned Third Team All-MAC Defense from Phil Steele's.

Western Michigan ranked second behind Ball State in total selections as the Cardinals led with 12 honorees and the Broncos also ranked second in terms of first team selections, falling a two short of Ball State's six first team nods.  WMU (9-3, 6-2 MAC) await a postseason bowl bid in order to continue its pursuit of an unprecedented 10th win this season and first bowl victory in program history.
