Mike Carbott

Mike Carbott is in his third year as the assistant strength and conditioning coach for Olympic sports in 2018-19. His main responsibilities include the exercise prescription and implementation for baseball, softball, men’s and women’s soccer, women’s throwers, and women’s golf. Mike oversees and manages the daily operations of the Seelye Center weight room and is the lead administer of the internship education program.

Carbott originally joined the Western Michigan University Olympic Strength and Conditioning team as an intern coach in January 2015. In May 2016, he was hired on as the graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach. During his assistantship, he was responsible for the performance needs of men’s and women’s tennis, women’s gymnastics, women’s golf, women’s cross country, and women’s track & field. In March 2017, he assumed his current responsibilities as assistant strength and conditioning coach.

Prior to joining the Western Michigan University staff, Carbott worked as a volunteer coach at Wayne State University assisting with football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, volleyball and cross country. He also served as the director of sport performance at Dynamic Athlete Performance in Canton, MI.

Carbott received his Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology & Human Performance from Eastern Michigan University. His Bachelor of Science degree was attained at Grand Valley State University in Clinical Exercise Science. Carbott is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA - CSCS) and United States Weightlifting (USAW – L1)

Carbott is a former athlete, competing during high school in football, powerlifting, rugby, basketball, and track & field. Carbott is originally from Livonia, MI, and currently resides in Kalamazoo. He is married to Lindsey Carbott and have a dog named Winston.
