Scott Carlson joins the staff with a plethora of experience to show for, including 12 years as a high school head coach, where he guided his team to a second place finish in the Michigan state high school tournament this past season.
 
Carlson coached all of his 12 years of high school basketball at Kent City High School. The first year his team went 8-13, but were 221-37 over the next 11 years for a final win percentage of .820.
 
During his tenure, Carlson’s Kent City girls’ teams won 10 league titles, 10 district titles, 2 regional titles and made a state finals appearance (20-21 season). There were also two undefeated regular seasons in that time. Carlson left with Kent City on a 45 game league winning streak and 68-1 league record since joining their current conference, with their only loss coming in state finals loss to Grass Lake by a final score of 52-50.
 
Carlson’s teams hold virtually every team three-point shooting record in the state of Michigan, including 18 makes in a half and 25 makes in a game. His teams hold three of the top four spots all time in season record totals, averaging 10 made three’s per contest.
 
There have been 12 Kent City players under Carlson’s guidance that have gone on to play college basketball in the last 12 years, including the first Division I player in Kent City history coming this season.
 
Carlson also brought a lot to the court during his playing days, including a district championship, three all-conference selections, a single-game scoring record (47 points), and the career scoring record of 1,263 points. Carlson also played collegiately at Muskegon Community College, Alma College, and Calvin College. Scott brings with him his wife, Iesa, son, Chris, and daughters Kara, Kendal, and McKenna.
