Mary Marchese

Marchese is in her fourth season at WMU. She is the recruiting coordinator at WMU and assists in non-conference scheduling, opponent scouting and coaches the perimeter players.

Marchese spent three seasons as an assistant coach for the Sacred Heart Pioneers prior to her arrival. At Sacred Heart, she served as the recruiting coordinator, academic monitor and community involvement liaison, as well as assisting with game planning, scouting and coaching post players.

A highly decorated player at Grand Valley State, she was a Daktronics All-American in 1998 and a Kodak Honorable Mention All-American in 1998-2000. She is the all-time leading scorer with 2,156 points and led the squad in both scoring and rebounding while being named team MVP in all four seasons. She was inducted in 2005 into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley for being such an extraordinary player.

As a sophomore, Marchese set a single-season Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and Grand Valley State record with 672 points while averaging 24.0 points per game. She earned numerous honors on the court, including March of Dimes’ Female Athlete of the Year and WBCA First-Team All-Region.

She spent one professional season in Dudelange, Luxembourg, playing for T71, where she led a National 1-Level team to the European Cup Semifinals in 2001.

A native of Grand Ledge, Mich., Marchese graduated from Grand Valley State in 2000 with a bachelor of science degree in health communication, followed by a minor in public relations. She earned her masters degree in educational technology from Sacred Heart in 2004.

The former Mary Randall is married to Tom Marchese and resides in Portage, Mich. The couple is expecting their first child in November.
