Kristin (Koetsier) McNally, a former Miss Michigan Basketball, Bronco All-American and WMU Athletic Hall of Fame inductee, is in her fifth season as an assistant coach at Western Michigan. McNally's primary responsibilities include post player development and recruiting.
Arguably the most decorated player in Western Michigan women's basketball history, McNally competed at WMU from 1999-2003 where she was a three-time First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection. Limited to just three complete seasons, McNally ranks seventh in career scoring, amassing 1,452 points and 682 rebounds. Her career averages stand at 16.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.
McNally made an impact the moment she arrived on campus, earning Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2000. Averaging 18.6 ppg and 9.5 rpg her first season, she led Western Michigan to a MAC West title and the school’s first ever WNIT appearance in 2000.
McNally's career was slowed down by an ACL injury four games into her sophomore season. Additionally, McNally battled through two different types of rare blood disorders prior and during her career at Western Michigan. Returning to the floor for the 2001-02 season, she went on to start all 31 games and average 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Her story brought national attention and she was the recipient of both the Jimmy V Foundation Comeback of the Year and Honda Inspiration Awards in 2002.
In her final season (2002-03), McNally was named a Kodak Honorable Mention All-American, averaging 16.6 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. She guided Western Michigan to its second ever MAC Tournament Championship and an NCAA Tournament appearance that season.
A prep star from Grandville, Mich., McNally was the 1998 Miss Michigan Basketball recipient and heavily recruited out of high school. She was the first ever Miss Michigan Basketball to attend WMU. She was inducted into the Grand Rapids Hall of Fame in October, 2010.
After graduating from Western Michigan in 2003, McNally coached at the AAU, middle school and high school levels. During the 2009-10 season, she served as the head coach at Bloomingdale, a Class C high school in Michigan.
McNally was inducted into the Western Michigan Athletic Hall of Fame in Oct. 2013, as a unanimous first-time ballot selection.
Before beginning her coaching career, McNally worked as an elementary special education paraprofessional in South Haven, Mich. She is the mother of two children, Mackenzie (12) and Jimmy (8) and is married to Lee McNally.
