Luke Hendrick enters his third season as director of basketball operations for Western Michigan. The former Dayton player (2006-10) assists with all of the
day-to-day operations of the program, with focus on aiding
with practice sessions, supervising the team's corps of managers and
handling all team travel arrangements. His responsibilities also include
the planning and coordination of
the Western Michigan summer basketball camps.
Before coming to Western Michigan, Hendrick spent four seasons with the Flyers as UD compiled a four-yeard record of 94-43. The Flyers won the 2010 Postseason NIT and reached the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament and 2008 NIT. Hendrick played in 10 games as a senior, including appearances against Illinois State, Cincinnati and North Carolina at Madison Square Garden during the Flyers' run to the NIT championship.
Hendrick was responsible for the practice squad at Dayton, in particular learning the opposing teams plays and coaching the practice squad to replicate the opposition.
He played high school ball at Nouvel Central Catholic and averaged 14.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game, while shooting 34 percent from three-point distance as a senior. He was named Michigan Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-State. Hendrick also played on four American Youth Basketball Tour national championship teams with the Tri-City Storm.
A native of Saginaw, Mich., Hendrick (22/DOB: 4-13-88) graduated from
Dayton in 2010 with a bachelor's in sport management. He is currently pursuing a master's degree at Western Michigan.
