Cowan Olinger joined the Western Michigan men's basketball staff in May of 2022. The 2024-25 season was his third with the Broncos.
Olinger came to Western Michigan after spending the previous five seasons at Miami University, where he worked alongside current WMU assistant Jeff Rutter. Olinger served as the director of basketball operations for the RedHawks for three seasons after serving as a graduate assistant for the prior two campaigns.
While at Miami, Olinger was responsible for all the behind-the-scenes and video operations for the program. This included breaking down practice, game and opponent film, as well as assisting the coaching staff with opponent scout preparations and maintaining the recruiting database.Â

Prior to his time at Miami, Olinger served as a student-manager at Purdue University from 2013-17, spending the final season as the program’s head manager.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision from Purdue in 2017 and his master’s degree in Sport Leadership and Management from Miami in 2019.
