Vinson Reynolds was officially announced as the defensive line coach for the Western Michigan football program in January of 2013 after spending the past two seasons at Central Michigan, helping the Chippewas to a win in the 2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.
Reyonlds turned around a defensive line in his second season that ended up recording 17 of the team’s 29 sacks, the second-most in the MAC. His worked with the line helped the Broncos to the second-best scoring defense in the conference as well.
Prior to returning to the Mid-American Conference as a coach, Reynolds spent the 2010 season as the defensive line coach at Central Oklahoma. He spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons as graduate assistant and defensive quality control coach at Oklahoma State under head coach Mike Gundy. Oklahoma State played in both the 2008 Holiday Bowl and 2009 Cotton Bowl while Reynolds was on staff.
The Detroit native began his coaching career in 2006 when he served as the defensive line coach at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. During his tenure, he coached Chris Booze (Second team All-WIAC, defensive line 2006) and Robert Key (First Team All-WIAC,defensive line 2007). Reynolds earned his master’s in adult education while at UW-P, graduating in December of 2007.
Reynolds (32/DOB: 9-20-1981) and Fleck played at Northern Illinois where he was a First Team All-MAC defensive end for the Huskies in 2003. Reynolds was also named Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. He was recognized by Rivals.com as a Top 10 Recruiter of the Year in 2014. Vinson and his wife, Cynthia, reside in Kalamazoo with their sons Eric and Josiah.
