Trevor Mendelson

Trevor Mendelson was named Western Michigan offensive live coach in December of 2022. He was then promoted to offensive line coach/co-offensive coordinator ahead of the 2024 season. 

In his first season, Mendelson's line helped produce 1,000-yard rusher and consensus Freshman All-American, Jalen Buckley. Center Jacob Gideon was named First Team All-MAC and was rated the top center in the MAC by Pro Football Focus. Guard Addison West also earned Third Team All-MAC honors. 

Mendelson came to WMU after spending the previous two seasons at Notre Dame where he served as the Senior Offensive Analyst, as well as the Assistant Offensive Line Coach. Mendelson would work alongside current WMU Head Coach, Lance Taylor, during the 2021 season. During his time with the program, the Irish compiled a record of 20-6 on their way to a Gator Bowl championship in 2022 and a Fiesta Bowl appearance in 2021. The Irish would finish the 2021 season ranked 5th in the CFP poll. During Mendelson’s 2 seasons at Notre Dame, the offense would go on to average 33.5 points per game while rushing the ball for 189 yards per game.

Prior to his time in South Bend, Mendelson spent the 2020 Season as the Tight Ends Coach at the University of Richmond. During his stint with the Spiders, Mendelson would help coach the team to a 3-1 record in the shortened COVID spring season. Under his tutelage, Mendelson coached the 1st Team All-Conference (CAA) Tight End, John Fitzgerald. Fitzgerald would finish the 4-game season with 14 catches for 131 yards and 1 Touchdown.

Mendelson arrived at Richmond after working with the Wake Forest University football program in 2018-2019 as an Offensive Graduate Assistant, working with the Offensive Line. During his 2 seasons with the Demon Deacons, the offense would go on to average 32 points per game in the 2-year span. The Deacons would appear in 2 consecutive bowl games, defeating Memphis in the 2018 Birmingham Bowl and appearing in the 2019 Pinstripe Bowl. Over the course of the 2 seasons, Mendelson assisted in the development of 2 NFL draft picks along the Offensive Line (Phil Haynes – 2019, 4th Round / Justin Herron – 2020, 6th Round).

Prior to Wake Forest, Mendelson spent one season as the Run Game Coordinator / Offensive Line Coach at Glenville State College in West Virginia. He also mentored the Pioneers’ Tight End Group. Under his coaching, the Glenville State Offensive Line paved the way for Dominique Gibson to rush for over 1,000 yards. Mendelson coached Caleb Doak to 2nd Team All-Mountain East Conference Honors at Center.

Mendelson got his start coaching for 2 seasons as the Offensive Line Graduate Assistant at Marshall University. While at Marshall, he assisted with the coaching of two All-Conference performers in Michael Selby and Sebastian Johansson. During the 2015 campaign, Marshall would defeat UCONN in the St. Petersburg Bowl, finishing the year with their 3rd consecutive 10-win season.  

The Dublin, Ohio native was a three-year letterman as an Offensive Lineman at Marshall, Mendelson played in 33 games with 12 career starts, starting his senior season at Left tackle on an Offensive Line that helped lead ‘The Herd’ to a Conference USA championship and a victory in the Boca Raton Bowl. Mendelson was named to the Conference USA All-Academic team and was also named the Marshall University Scholar-Athlete of the year (2014).

Mendelson earned his bachelor’s degree in Finance from Marshall University in 2013, and his Master’s in Business Administration from Marshall in 2015. He was a 2010 graduate of Dublin Jerome High School.

He and his wife, Erica, welcomed their daughter Birdie in 2023.
