KC Zenner joined the Western Michigan staff in February of 2020 and serves as a graduate assistant.
During the 2019 season, Zenner was the special teams coordinator and safeties coach at Saginaw Valley State University. He helped the Cardinals to a 5-6 record and three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) victories. Under Zenner’s direction, SVSU averaged 17.9 yards per kickoff return and 7.3 yards per punt runback. Sophomore Connor Luksic served as the team’s placekicker and punter and drilled eight field goals, the fourth most in the league.
On defense, Zenner helped redshirt freshman Michael Woolridge finish second on the team with 70 tackles and junior Marvin White to a 55-tackle season. Sophomore Nick Whiteside topped the squad and finished second in the GLIAC with five interceptions.
Prior to his time at Saginaw Valley State, Zenner was the safeties coach at Ferris State for the 2018 season, helping lead the Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season, GLIAC championship and appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Ferris State posted the school record for single-season victories that year with 15.Â
Zenner was a four-year safety at Ferris State, from 2013-17, helping the Bulldogs to a 45-7 record. He was part of the 2014 and 2015 GLIAC championship squads and made four NCAA Division II Playoff appearances. Zenner helped lead Ferris State to a Super Region 4 championship in 2016 and was an All-GLIAC selection following his senior season. In 2014, he was selected as a USA College Football Freshman All-America after leading the Bulldogs in tackles.Â
Zenner prepped at Rockford High School under Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame coach Ralph Munger. The team had an overall record of 32-7 in Zenner’s three varsity seasons, winning three OK Red championships and making three trips to the Michigan High School Athletic Association state semifinals. He was a two-time all-state selection and three-time Grand Rapids Free Press Dream Team member.Â
