Pre-game:

  • 60th all-time meeting between Western Michigan and Miami.
  • WMU last played Miami in 2015 resulting in a 35-13 home win.
  • Last time the two teams met in Oxford was in 2014 resulting in a 42-10 Bronco win.
  • WMU’s first conference game of the season.

First Quarter:
  • Freshman K Cameron Braaten appeared in his first game and handled the opening kickoff for 64 yards.
  • Freshman WR Jayden Reed hauls in two touchdowns for 10 and 33 yards, respectively.
  • Reed reaches a new career and season high with two receiving touchdowns.
  • Junior WR D’Wayne Eskridge’s first time playing in two games due to injury.

Second Quarter:
  • WMU has first fumble of the season that the Broncos did not recover. Were one of five teams nationally with no fumbles heading into game.

Third Quarter:
  • Freshman Jayden Reed hauls in 27-yard touchdown and third receiving touchdown of the day. Junior QB Jon Wassink’s third passing touchdown of the day.
  • Reed reaches 100 yards receiving for third time in five games.
  • Junior wide receiver D’Wayne Eskridge reaches 100 yards receiving for second time this season.
  • Redshirt senior wide receiver Drake Harris records first career receiving touchdown. (Harris also played four seasons at the University of Michigan).   
  • Junior QB Jon Wassink reaches 300 passing yards for the second time this season. First time was against Syracuse on August 31, 2018.
  • Last time Miami allowed over 200 yards receiving was in 2015 against WMU.

Fourth Quarter:
  • Reed reaches new career high for receiving yards (137).
  • Reed records fourth receiving touchdown of the game, tying the school record set by Greg Jennings back in 2005.  
  • Reed now has six receiving touchdowns in five games of his freshman campaign. 2016 NFL No.5 overall draft pick Corey Davis has six total during his freshman year.
  • Last time a WMU player recorded four TDs in one game was Jarvion Franklin in 2017 against Buffalo.
  • Wassink runs for a 2-yard touchdown putting him at five passing TDs and one rushing TD for the day.
  • Sophomore defensive lineman Ralph Holley sacks Miami redshirt senior QB Gus Ragland for a loss of six yards.

Post-Game:
  • Western Michigan’s second road win of the season, Broncos improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play (both losses to Power Five opponents).
  • Fourth straight year the Broncos have won their conference opener.
  • Fifth straight year WMU has won their first Mid-American Conference road game.
  • WMU has two 100+ yard receivers for second time this season (D’Wayne Eskridge, 141; Jayden Reed 137). First time was against Syracuse on August 31, 2018.
  • Junior QB Jon Wassink goes over 400 yards passing for first time in career (439). Last time WMU had a 400-yard passer was Zach Terrell (455) against Buffalo in 2016.
  • Broncos finish with 562 yards total offense, marking the fourth time in five games WMU has put up over 500 yards total offense.
    Broncos return home on Saturday, Oct. 6 against Eastern Michigan in the 95th annual Homecoming game, as well as Arbor Financial Youth Day. Kick-off is set for Noon and can be seen on ESPN +.
