WMU-Toledo Post-Game Quotes
Redshirt Junior Justin Tranquil on team’s performance:
“Toledo has a bunch of great athletes out wide and in the back field and they played a heck of a game, they showed up ready to go tonight. We have to fix our mistakes, get back in the film room, and get ready for
next week.”
Tranquil on Toledo’s ability to stop a comeback:
“We usually are very energetic on the sideline and today, I felt that we just didn’t have that same energy. I can’t point to a specific thing, but as a defense we didn’t do our job of stepping up, and helping put the offense in a good position.”
Tranquil on preparing for next week:
“It’s the same as any other week, find things to improve on and find the positives. We’re going to take it like any other week. This loss doesn’t change anything for us, we still have our eyes on the MAC championship game and we have to put tonight in the rear view mirror.”
Senior running back Jamauri Bogan on team’s loss tonight:
“As a team we just have to move forward and tomorrow we have to continue to get better. Toledo did a great job tonight, they had a good game plan, they slowed us down, and got us out of our game plan of running the ball.”
Bogan on what went through his head when Jon (Wassink) left the game:
“Jon’s our leader, he is our quarterback, but at the end of the day we have practiced with Kaleb Eleby. As you saw tonight, he has a strong arm and the ability to be a strong player here at Western Michigan
University.”
Head Coach Tim Lester on team’s performance:
“It shocks me a little bit, but we need to play better next week in all phases. We gave up some sacks, missed some throws, and we couldn’t stop them on offense tonight. We didn’t play well enough tonight to beat a good Toledo ball club. I told our guys after the game tonight though, losing is learning, we lost our first two, but then we got better, and that’s what we have to do now.”
Lester on status of Jon Wassink:
“He has a foot injury and that is all I know. I know it’s not broken, and he will be reevaluated tomorrow and we will go from there.”
On the play of freshman quarterback Kaleb Eleby:
“I sure didn’t look as good as him in my first game here, as you can see he can sure throw the ball. I told him his first game is going to move pretty fast to him, and he did miss a few throws early. When he came back to the sideline, I asked him what he saw. He said “coach, it’s really fast out there.” But his numbers were phenomenal for his first game, especially when the other team knows you are going to throw it.”
