POST-GAME NOTES

  • Western Michigan will win the "Battle for the Cannon" trophy for the fourth time in the last five seasons
  • WMU also claimed the Michigan MAC Trophy for the fifth time since its inception in 2005.
  • Western Michigan has won the last four meetings in Mount Pleasant (2018, 2016, 2014, 2012). CMU has not defeated WMU at Kelly/Shorts Stadium since 2010.
  • The victory secured head coach Tim Lester's first win in Mount Pleasant. As a quarterback for WMU from 1996-99, Lester went 2-2 against CMU with both wins coming at home. As an assistant coach in 2005, 2006, WMU defeated CMU at home, 31-24.
  • With an overall record of 6-2, the Broncos are bowl eligible for a program record fifth straight season.
  • WMU improves to 4-0 to begin MAC play for the third time in the last four years and is one of three undefeated teams remaining in the MAC (Buffalo, NIU).
