WMU vs Ball State Quotes
WMU Head Coach Tim Lester
Thoughts on the game...
“That was a great start to the game, after that moment we had the momentum and we never gave it back and that was probably the most important thing. We held the momentum the whole game and we played 60 minutes and that was the biggest thing not to have a lull after that a start like that.
On the offense…
"Everything is by design to grow a young quarterback and not put him in too many bad situations. We're going to need him to make some plays in certain situations moving forward, but it doesn't nessecarily mean we want to throw him to the wolves. Kevin (Johns) did a good job keeping him in good situations. On third downs I think we were 7 of 13 which is huge.
"We had unbelievable field position all day and that helps the offense with their yards.
"He's (Wassink) growing. Every single time he's getting better. He had three touchdowns today and a couple of deeps balls ... that was really the last thing that needed to come along."
Redshirt Sophomore quarterback Jon Wassink:
Thoughts on the game...
“Coach Lester really wanted us to set the tone from the beginning of the game and we did that on the opening kick-off … I felt really good, we took what the defense gave us. They knew we had a good running game so they loaded the box and it gave us opportunities for deep throws.”
Redshirt Sophomore defensive back Obbie Jackson:
On scoring off a fumble recovery on the opening kickoff...
“I was excited, I saw the ball in the air and knew I had to go get it. That was what we talked about from the beginning to go out and set the tone.”
Ball State Head Coach Mike Neu:
On the game…
“A disappointing night obviously. We got started on the wrong foot, allowing the kickoff return fumbled for a touchdown to start the game. We had to keep our guys positive to fight and claw for four quarters, but we fell short in all quarters. We played one game in the Mid-American Conference, it did not go as planned. We have Akron on the road next week, so we have to get ourselves back on the bus and back to Muncie and prepare.”
