WMU vs. Idaho Quotes
Idaho Quotes 9/16/2017
Head Coach Tim Lester:
Thoughts on win...
“I thought our team played 60 minutes, I know what we are…we have a young quarterback and there are times we are going to struggle and the key is that we have to keep playing. I don’t think our juice was there but I addressed that at halftime. I was happy with that way they finished. It was good to see them finish a game in the 4th…we are going to have to do that the rest of the year.”
“Jon was being an active participant in the game. I talked to him earlier in the week telling him to assert himself in the game and he did that. The most exciting part of that win was that we did not run the ball that great, I thought we ran the ball good. I know we are going to be a great running team and it’s good to know when we need Jon to come up big in the passing game he can.”
“I thought our defense played great, I mean they are going to get better, they have a long way to go. Obbie gave one up over the top for a touchdown and the fact that he came back and had the pick after giving up a touchdown tells you a lot about the kid. I was proud of the way we got after the quarterback at the end of the game.”
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Jon Wassink
“We kept fighting the whole game and we knew eventually we were going to wear them down. As an offense, as each week has gone on we have continued to gain confidence.”
Redshirt sophomore Antonio Balabani
“We talk a lot about how we like adversity, right there was a great opportunity to come together and really start clicking. Our main point of emphasis was to make their quarterback feel uncomfortable. Coach talks about chasing that feeling when you win a play, win a game and when you do that it just makes you want to continue to get after it.”
Redshirt junior running back Jamauri Bogan
“We are still trying to figure out who we are and game by game we figure that out. Tonight we got a good glimpse of it. We learned a lot about ourselves tonight, that we aren’t going to give up and that we are going to keep fighting.”
Head Coach Paul Petrino
Thoughts on the loss…
“It’s hard when you give a game away. We had a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter and made some mistakes. You cannot turn the ball over and tackle their quarterback when he scrambles. You also cannot kill yourself on special teams. If you look at the stats, we had more yards than Western Michigan, and we were not very good on third down which hurts.”
On the team effort…
“I thought we were way better for three quarters, but we have to find a way to win that game in the fourth quarter. The first three quarters was the best football we have played this year, but it means nothing if you do not finish it off in the fourth quarter.”
