WMU vs. Kent State Quotes
Head Coach Tim Lester Opening Statement:
“As far as today, I’m proud of the seniors. This is the senior class at WMU that has the most wins in program history and I can’t be more proud of them. I’m happy for Darius Phillips for getting back into the end zone and I’m happy for Jarvion for his game today, just shy of 200. And Spillane got a pick-six as well.”
“All the guys that had been here for four years took care of business tonight. I thought the defense played a great second half also.”
“I’m happy for Davie, the walk on receiver turned running back this week, he busted a huge one and then we got Regan in there to kick the extra point, another senior out there.”
Lester on his teams resiliently:
“I kept telling them to bend but not break and they did. They kept playing. There’s been times this season when it takes us 3-4 drives to start swinging back but tonight we got back right on top of them.”
Lester on freshman quarterback Reece Goddard’s progression:
“Better than last week. He is going to have to throw the ball for us to win games. He is only going to get better. His receivers really helped him out today and that really helps out the young guy.”
Lester on the MAC West Race:
“We have a lot of work to do and we are in control of our own destiny. We got ourselves into the exact same position we were in two years ago.”
On his team being Bowl Eligible
“I never went to a bowl game when I was here. We went to the MAC championship game but never went to a bowl game. So to wear this logo and finally go to one, I’m excited.”
WMU Senior Darius Phillips on leaving Waldo Stadium with a win on senior night:
“It was emotional for me because I won’t ever play here again, so getting this win was big for me.”
Phillips on being bowl eligible:
“It’s a great accomplishment. I’m excited to see where we are going but right now we are focusing on Northern Illinois.”
Phillips on how well the defense played tonight:
“I have to give credit to the defensive line tonight. They made my pick-six possible by getting pressure on the quarterback.”
WMU Senior Jarvion Franklin on his last game at Waldo Stadium:
“The emotions hit me last night lying in bed. The fact we won’t be able to run out of the tunnel ever again and have it mean something makes the 5 A.M. summer workouts seem reasonable now.”
“I’m glad we ended it on a good note and I couldn't choose a better group of seniors to go out on the field with.”
Franklin on what it means to play at Waldo Stadium:
“The fans have always had our back all four years I’ve been here. We feed off the fans and the opposing team starts to get rattled when our crowd gets loud. And we feed off that too.”
“The fans are one of the top three reasons for us winning football games at home.”
Franklin having the most wins by a senior class in WMU history
“Right now we are focused on the next few weeks and controlling our own destiny. That’s something we can look at down the road but right now we are focusing back on the MAC race.”
Franklin on being bowl eligible:
“It’s a great opportunity to train and mature team 112 just a little more.”
WMU Senior Andre Turner on leaving Waldo:
“It’s all about my brothers. They wanted to win just as bad as I did tonight. We fought hard and that was the main point this week.”
