WMU vs Akron Game Quotes

Western Michigan Head Coach Tim Lester
Thoughts on the game…
“Obviously, it was a frustrating loss. I don’t think we came out of the locker room in the first half well as we preached about coming out of the locker room with energy with the interesting 24 hours that we had and we did not do that. Our defense played really well as we only allowed 215 yards of offense which set up our offense. However, you can’t go 1-for-4 in the red zone. I was proud we kept fighting back and we did not give up. Ultimately this could be a great thing for us as it makes us realize we need to play 60 minutes. Hopefully this is a learning experience for us moving forward."

Running Back Jarvion Franklin
Thoughts on the postponement of the game...
“We have to give credit to Akron, they handled the same adversity that we did yesterday. Yesterday we came out with our hair on fire and they did too before the game. Then it started raining uncontrollably and the adversity started to set it. We just need to go back to the drawing board and find a way to face adversity better.”

Thoughts on the game plan of running the ball vs. Akron....
“We practiced our game plan all week and we didn’t’ expect to run the ball that many times but we just go with what is called. I know all the running backs are going to execute what is called to the best of our ability.”

Running Back Jamauri Bogan
Thoughts on postponement of the game...
“It does make things a little different. Yesterday we were at the Radisson and then we had to go home but at the end of the day I feel like it gave us enough time to recover because we just played a seven overtime game. However, there are no excuses to say that the delay affected us and give all the credit to Akron. As leaders we have to pick the team up and get ready for next week.”

Thought on moving forward in MAC play:
“I’m already doing my best to forget about today, yeah it hurts a lot. So much goes into preparation each we, going to class, coming back and watching film. But now we start prepping for next week and putting all of our energy into next week.”

Linebacker Asantay Brown
Thoughts on atmosphere at Waldo Stadium on a Sunday....
“We have to bring our own juice whether its home or away. We know our community loves and supports us and we support them so we can’t let that decide the outcome of this game. It all comes down to who handled the adversity better, and today that was Akron.”

Akron Head Coach Terry Bowden
Thoughts on the game…
“Well a team like Western Michigan because they are so good at running the ball, it was key for those first few series for our defense to stop them. For us to get that interception early really gave us the momentum for the rest of the game.”

Thoughts on the delay…
“Mentally we got ready to play three or four times yesterday. We were exhausted, they were so anxious because they wanted to play football. Those are things you can’t control and that’s the old saying don’t worry about the things you can’t control.”

Senior Quarterback Thomas Woodson
“We just executed and put up points when we had the opportunities.  A win is a win, it was not the greatest game we have played this year but we just have to have that 1-0 mentality every week to move on to the next one.”

Junior linebacker Ulysees Gilbert III
“Coming back from yesterday we just had to get ready for game day again and we knew what we had to do. We wanted to get on top early and that is what we did.”
