ST. LOUIS -- Junior midfielder Jordan Klein and redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Lindewirth have earned the first weekly honors of the season for the Western Michigan University men's soccer team.

Tuesday morning two Broncos were named Missouri Valley Conference Players of the Week by conference office staff. Midfielder Jordan Klein was named the MVC Defender of the Week while goalkeeper Alex Lindewirth was named the MVC Goalkeeper of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for both players following the first conference match of the year.

Klein was a key factor for the WMU defense that was able to hold the Bowling Green Falcons scoreless on Friday night in a 1-0 shutout win. As one of the anchors of the backline, the midfielder helped the Brown and Gold block six of the Falcons 19 shots as he stayed on the pitch for a full 90 minutes. Along with helping keep shots from the goal, Klein got into the offensive action as well. He recorded only his second shot on goal of the season in the 50th minute, forcing a save in the top right quadrant of the net.

Redshirt senior goalie Alex Lindewirth had another stellar performance for Western Michigan at Bowling Green for his second shutout of the season. It was a light first half for Lindewirth, who only had to save one shot and see three others near the net through 45 minutes. But it was a much busier final 45 minutes for the Broncos leading goalkeeper as he faced 12 shots while making five more saves to end the match with six overall. Lindewirth now leads the MVC in total saves (38) and saves per game (4.75) and is nationally ranked in the Top 20 in both categories. 

This is WMU's first weekly honors of the 2026 season from the conference office. The Brown and Gold earned one weekly award in 2025 when defender Chirstian Shannon was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week on October 14. Western Michigan is back in action this evening for a non-conference match in the Motor City against Detroit Mercy at 6:00 p.m.
