STORRS, Conn. -- The Western Michigan University men's soccer team is back on the road for another week, starting with a Sunday night match at UConn.

LAST TIME OUT
It was a hard fought battle for Western Michigan in the program's first ever home night game against the 23rd ranked Wisconsin Badgers. For the first time this season, the Broncos weren't able to find the back of the net in a close 1-0 match with the Badgers. A last minute set piece in the bottom of the first half resulted in the lone goal of the night for Wisconsin. 

WMU had two close opportunities on net to even the game in the second half from junior forward Vitor Geormel and sophomore defender Dan McHale. But it was senior forward Joseph Min who led the Brown and Gold defense with two shots on the night.

LEADING IN NET
Redshirt senior goalkeeper Alex Lindewirth has been a conference leading presence in the net for WMU after three matches. Lindewirth has made 16 saves in 270 minutes of play to average 5.33 a match. He currently leads the Missouri Valley Conference in save percentage (0.762), saves per game, and total saves. 

Lindewirth is also tied with four other MVC goalies for keeper minutes played. Nationally, Lindewirth has made the sixth most saves of any goalkeeper with 16. He is also nationally ranked in the Top 25 for saves per game and goalie minutes played.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Heading into Sunday's match, UConn is looking for its first point of the season having begun 2026 with three straight losses. The Huskies have played two home matches against Syracuse and Fairfield while also having one road match at UMass. UConn was blanked for the first time this season on Thursday, when the Stags took a 1-0 victory inside Joseph J. Morrone Stadium.

The Huskies are led by led by senior forward Elijah Lanford who has found the back of the net in UConn's first two games of the year. The Huskies have also been successful in getting into the attacking third, ranking 15th nationally in corner kicks per game, averaging 8.33 corners through 90 minutes. In net, UConn has relied on redshirt junior Kyle Durham, who also led the Huskies at goalkeeper in 2025 as well. Through three matches, Durham has allowed six goals with 10 saves for a save percentage of .625.
