KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Western Michigan volleyball team begins its 2026 season this weekend by hosting its annual tournament at University Arena. The Broncos are set to take on Green Bay on Friday, Navy on Saturday and Indiana State on Sunday.

THE FIRST SERVE
Western Michigan begins its 2026 season by hosting its annual non-conference tournament this weekend at University Arena. This year, the Broncos welcome Green Bay, Navy and Indiana State to Kalamazoo for the three-day event.  

HOME SWEET HOME
The Brown and Gold went 9-4 in Kalamazoo last season, including winning each of their final five home tilts. University Arena has become a huge home court advantage for the Broncos under Colleen Munson, as they own a 181-63 (.742) home record during her tenure. 

THE OPPONENTS
WMU opens up the season on Friday against Green Bay, which went 11-19 overall and 10-8 in Horizon League play to finish sixth in the standings. These two teams met last season in Green Bay, with the Broncos prevailing in five to improve to 4-0 in the all-time series. Navy turned in a 13-14 record last season and made a run to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals. Saturday's tilt marks the first-ever meeting between the Broncos and Midshipmen. WMU rounds out the weekend on Sunday against Indiana State, which is coming off of a 9-19 campaign in 2025. The Sycamores own a 5-3 edge in the all-time series, but Western Michigan earned a straight-set win in the two teams' most recent encounter in Kalamazoo back in 2022.

2025 SEASON REVIEW
Western Michigan surged in the second-half of the 2025 season, winning nine of its final 11 regular-season contests to finish second and earn a bye in the MAC Tournament. The Broncos reached the MAC Tournament Championship Match for the third straight year before falling to Toledo in four sets. WMU's defense led all of NCAA Division I in total digs (2,226), was fourth nationally in digs per set (17.53) and finished 35th in the nation with a .179 opponents' hitting percentage.  

RICHMOND EARNS PRESEASON HONORS
After earning spots on the All-MAC First Team and All-MAC Freshman Team a year ago, redshirt sophomore setter Leah Richmond was named to the Preseason All-MAC Team on Monday. The Indianapolis native led the conference and ranked 50th in NCAA DI with 9.93 assists per set, while finishing second in the league and 16th nationally with 1,241 assists last year. Richmond also set a single-season program record with 26 double-doubles.

Western Michigan was picked third in the MAC Preseason Coaches Poll, finishing behind last season's tournament champion, Toledo, and regular season champion, Ball State.
