Five Broncos named to All-MAC softball teams

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Western Michigan softball team had five players earn postseason recognition from the Mid-American Conference prior to the start of the 2026 MAC Tournament.

The Broncos placed five of their roster on All-MAC teams on Wednesday morning, the most recognitions for the program since 2015. WMU had three players named to the All-MAC Second Team for their performance in conference play, senior Jordan Smith, junior Caitlin Tighe, and freshman Ava Geyer. While three members of the Brown and Gold squad were named to the All-MAC Freshman Team, pitcher Hannah Potts, utility Bella Duncan, and Geyer.

Ava Geyer | P | Fr. | New Carlisle, Ind. - Second Team and Freshman Team
Geyer had an explosive first season for Western Michigan in the circle in 2026. The freshman led the Broncos in ERA throughout the season at 3.21 while dropping it to 2.53 against MAC opponents to lead the conference. Geyer struck out 50 batters through 13 appearances and 11 starts in conference, including 16 looking strikeouts for third in the MAC. She was also ranked in the Top 10 in the MAC in opposing batting average (.271), batters struck out, and wins (7). 

Bella Duncan | UTL | Fr. | Morrisson, Ill. - Freshman Team
Duncan competed across the field for WMU, appearing at every position in the infield while also pitching 3.1 innings. The freshman set a new program record for the Brown and Gold for RBIs in a season, bringing 51 runs home across 50 starts going into the MAC Tournament this afternoon.

During conference play, Duncan was one of the plate leaders for Western Michigan with a .321 average on 27 hits, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 18 RBIs, and 18 runs scored. The utility player was also a defensive force in the infield, making 117 putouts, assisting on 23 others while committing just one error. She was also part of a team-high five double plays across MAC competition. 

Hannah Potts | P | Fr. | Wellston, Ohio - Freshman Team
Potts along with Geyer, were a one-two punch for the Broncos in the circle this season. The freshman became the first pitcher to reach 100+ strikeouts in their first collegiate season for WMU since 2009. Potts led the MAC in punch outs with 69 across 16 appearances and 15 starts. She was also in the Top 10 in multiple other pitching categories during conference action including ERA (3.68), opposing batting average (.259), innings pitched (83.2), strikeouts looking (13), and wins (7). 

Jordan Smith | UTL | Sr. | Bloomfield Hills, Mich. - Second Team
Smith became an offensive force for the Brown in Gold during conference play. In 26 games and 25 starts the senior utility player led the team in doubles (8) and RBIs (21), while also being in the top three in batting average (.364), hits (28), triples (1), home runs (4), and slugging percentage (.649). Among other MAC players, Smith was , 11th in doubles, 13th in slugging percentage, 20th in RBIs, and 21st in batting average. 

Caitlin Tighe | INF | Jr. | Edwardsburgh, Mich. - Second Team
Tighe had a breakout season at the plate this year for Western Michigan while also leading the Broncos in multiple categories during MACtion. The junior shortstop had a team-high during MAC play in runs scored (21), hits (34), home runs (5), slugging percentage (.674), and sacrifice flies (3). With her impressive performance for WMU during conference play, Tighe brought her numbers up to rank sixth in the MAC for sacrifice bunts (3), fourth in sacrifice flies, 11th in hits and slugging percentage, 14th in batting average and home runs, and 17th in runs scored.
