KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan junior center fielder
Tanner Mally has been named a Midseason All-American by both D1Baseball and Perfect Game, it was announced on Wednesday. D1Baseball had Mally on its Second Team, while Perfect Game placed the junior on its Third Team.
Mally enters the month of April leading all of NCAA Division I baseball in both batting average (.558) and on-base percentage (.661), and owns more than a 60-point advantage over the second-highest mark in both categories. The Lisle, Ill., native has also been one of the toughest hitters in the nation to strike out, having fanned just twice in 86 at-bats.
In addition to his batting average and on-base percentage, Mally sits atop the Mid-American Conference in total hits (48), runs scored (33) and hit by pitches (15). He has taken his offensive game to an even higher level in conference play, owning a league-leading .619 batting average and .698 on-base percentage.
An All-MAC Defensive Team selection a year ago, Mally has continued to patrol center field at an elite level this season for Western Michigan, owning a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with a pair of outfield assists.
Mally and the Broncos are set to hit the road this week for a three-game series up in Mount Pleasant against rival Central Michigan. First pitch for Thursday's series opener against the Chippewas is slated for Thursday at 3 pm.
