KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team dropped a home contest to Northern Illinois, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at West Hills Athletic Club.
The Broncos (8-9, 1-2 MAC) started off strong by taking the doubles point. Sophomores
Oscar Corwin and
Alex Antonopoulos gave WMU the early advantage with a 6-2 win at No. 1 over Iker Arrastia and Nikola Puntaric. Graduate student
Tim Riedel and
Drew Evans then secured the point with a 6-4 win over Lorenzo Messina and Federico Scotuzzi at No. 3.Â
NIU got the best of WMU in singles, winning four of the six matches. WMU's points came courtesy of a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 by Corwin over Scotuzzi. The other came from
Chen-Hui Ho, with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chaio Bo Suo Nan at No. 5.Â
The Broncos are back at home on Saturday afternoon, hosting UIC at 1 p.m. at West Hills Athletic Club. Admission is free.Â
