A two-out error helped the Broncos score the game's first run in the top of the first. The Michigan miscue allowed Michael Maloney to reach and then move into scoring position for Connor Ostrander, who delivered a two-out, RBI single to give WMU the early edge.

The Wolverines came right back in the home half, plating a pair to move in front, 2-1.

Western Michigan leveled the score in the top of the second. With two down, Adam Lehmann was hit by a pitch, Tanner Mally worked a walk and Drew Howard then plated Lehmann with a base hit.

The Broncos had a chance to regain the lead in the top of the fourth, but left the bases loaded.

Michigan also had opportunities in the middle innings, but Joey Wizceb and Matt Maloney induced double plays in the fourth and fifth frames to keep the game tied.

The Wolverines picked up a run in the sixth to go back on top, 3-2.

WMU threatened again in the seventh and eighth frames, but left a pair of runners on both times.

Western Michigan resumes MAC play this weekend with a three-game series at Ohio. Friday's series opener against the Bobcats is scheduled for 3 pm on ESPN+.
