Women's Tennis Heads to Cleveland State and Youngstown State

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's tennis team heads on the road to battle Cleveland State on Saturday at 10 a.m. and Youngstown State on Sunday at 11 a.m.

LAST WEEK
The Broncos (5-4) returned home after four-straight road matches to host Oakland. WMU defeated OU 5-2 to improve to 4-0 at home this season. Western Michigan has won two straight, dating back to a Feb. 8 road win at Dayton, 6-1.

FIRST OF MANY
Western Michigan freshman Ayana Yaguchi earned her first career dual-match win in the victory over Oakland. Yaguchi, a native of Tokyo, Japan, defeated Emilia Jarvinen 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.

Yaguchi is the first Japanese Bronco to win a match since Yuriko Ono, who competed for Western Michigan from 2013-15.

SCOUTING THE VIKINGS AND THE PENGUINS
Cleveland State (1-7) just has one win on the season, but it came in its most recent match. Back on Valentines Day, the Vikings defeated St. Bonaventure, 4-3, at home. Saturday will be the fourth time that CSU has played a team from the MAC. The Vikings have losses at Eastern Michigan, at Miami and home against Toledo.

Youngstown State (3-4) has been on the road since Jan. 30 and will host Bowling Green on Friday and Duquesne on Saturday before the Broncos on Sunday. Last week, the Penguins fell at Buffalo 7-0. YSU is 1-1 at home so far this season.

ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan returns home to host Ferris State on Friday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m.
