BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Western Michigan women's basketball team fell short at Bowling Green, 67-63, at the Stroh Center on Wednesday night.
WMU (7-17, 3-10 MAC) battled back to take a 54-50 lead early in the fourth quarter on a triple by
Alli Harness. The Falcons responded with an 8-0 run to retake the lead. The Broncos got within one point three times during the remainder of the game but were unable to get over the hump.
De'Ahna Richardson led the Broncos with 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting. Harness had 12 points, all on three-pointers.
Kailey Starks finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.
Western Michigan shot 20-for-48 (41.7 percent) from the field and 10-for-27 from beyond the arc. The team had a solid night from the charity stripe, shooting 13-for-16 (81.3 percent). WMU's defense held the Falcons to just 36.7 percent from the field, but the Falcons forced 21 WMU turnovers on the night and scoring 21 points from them.
The Broncos got off to a slow start, shooting just 26.7 percent in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 14-8.
WMU flipped things in the second quarter, holding the Falcons to just 3-for-15 from the field, while shooting 5-for-11. Both Bolds and Wilks completed three-point plays the old fashioned way, while Western Michigan was also 3-for-7 from beyond the arc in the second.
Alli Harness hit a triple with 31 seconds left in the half to send the team to the locker room trailing just 25-23.
Western Michigan took its first lead of the game when Starks made a driving layup to make it 27-25. BGSU retook the lead and extended it to 7, 46-40, but the Broncos responded with a 6-0 run to tie it up with 41 seconds left in the third before a Lauren Gerken jump shot sent the teams into the fourth quarter with a 48-46 advantage for the Falcons.
