KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team fell to Akron, 90-73, on Tuesday evening at University Arena.
Justice Williams filled up the stats sheet for the Broncos (9-17, 3-10 MAC), posting team highs in both points (21) and assists (6), while also grabbing six rebounds.
Trey Lewis tallied 13 points,
Brady Swartz had 11 points and a team-leading eight rebounds and
Jayden Brewer notched 10 points.
Both teams shot the ball well and went back and forth in the opening minutes of the contest. Holding a 16-13 edge, Akron (21-5, 12-1) put together an 18-2 surge to open up a 34-15 lead. The visitors' advantage remained steady throughout the rest of the period, and they took a 53-34 cushion into the locker room. Western Michigan got as close as 13, 77-64, in the latter stages of the second half, but the Zips answered to put the contest away.
The Broncos made 26-of-59 (44.1 percent) from the floor, while the Zips were 33-of-66 (50.0 percent) from the field in the contest.
Western Michigan hits the road for its next two games, starting on Saturday evening at rival Central Michigan. Tip is scheduled for 5 pm on
