Broncos Sweep Volleyball Player of the Week Awards

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Following a pair of sweeps over in-state rivals Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan, the Western Michigan volleyball team claimed all three of the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards on Monday. Annalise Patchett was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week, Leah Richmond earned Setter of the Week and Gabby Weihe claimed the Defensive Player of the Week honor. 

Patchett led the Broncos with 24 kills (4.00/set) on a .351 hitting percentage and added a pair of service aces and eight blocks for a total of 30.0 points (5.00/set) in WMU's two straight-set victories. The junior had the hot hand against CMU, putting down a match-high 16 kills on a blistering .452 hitting percentage. She followed that up with a team-high eight kills, a career-high six blocks, five digs and a pair of aces in Friday's sweep of EMU.

Richmond totaled 65 assists (10.83/set) and 20 digs (3.33/set) on the way to a pair of double-doubles, giving her a team-leading six double-doubles for the season. On Tuesday against CMU, the redshirt sophomore handed out 42 helpers (14.00/set) and added 10 digs to help the Broncos hit .305. She followed that up with 23 assists, 10 digs, four blocks and a pair of service aces in Friday's win over EMU.

Weihe anchored Western Michigan's defense up front, totaling 11.0 blocks (1.83/set) to limit the Chippewas and Eagles to a combined .063 hitting percentage in the two contests. The senior's biggest performance came in Friday's win over Eastern Michigan, during which she had a career-high nine rejections (2 solo, 7 assists) to help the Broncos tie their season high with 13 blocks and limit the visitors to a .018 hitting percentage, the lowest by a WMU opponent so far this season.

Western Michigan hits the road this week for a pair of matches at Akron. First serve for Thursday's series opener against the Zips is slated for 6 pm.
