SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Soniya Jones' school record in the 60-meter dash headlined a great day at the Meyo Invitational for the Western Michigan track and field program.
Jones broke the school record twice, posting a 7.45 in the semifinals. She then bested her time with a 7.41 to win the event later in the day.
Ava Kurczewski was also dominant on the track, claiming the second best mile time in school history. She crossed the finish line in a time of 4:48.73.
Lara Machado Pereira (4:58.73),
Kaelin Hughes (5:00.53),
Lily Overton (5:01.02) and
Madison Zarembski (5:10.60) were also strong in the event.
Laurine Elisa Marimon also made her way into the record book, recording the third best triple jump mark in program history. She finished the meet with a top leap of 12.31 meters.
Anichka Malachi concluded the event with a top mark of 11.68 meters.
Going back to the sprints group, the 60-meter dash was a great event for the Brown and Gold.
Sandra Ferrari finished third with a time of 8.56, while
Mabinty Kebe ended the race in fourth place with a time of 8.61.
The 800 squad saw some great results, as
Emma Henkel notched a PR time of 2:15.53.
Rebekah Asselin concluded the race in a time of 2:16.89, while
Joy Evans earned a time of 2:20.44.
To end the day, the 4x400 relay team of
Mickaliliah Vassell, Jones,
Laurie-Ann Desormes and
Jade Celestine was able to post a time of 3:53.29.
