BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's soccer team extended its MAC unbeaten streak to 25 games with a 1-1 draw against Bowling Green on Sunday afternoon.
Avery Peters tallied her third goal of the season, while
Drew Martin picked up an assist on the play.
Reagan Sulaver made three saves in net to keep the Broncos unbeaten in MAC play.
FIRST HALF
Both defenses stole the show early, as neither team could get much going on offense. WMU would get things going in the 16th minute, as Peters fired the Broncos' first shot of the game into the back of the net. The Mason, Mich. native has now scored in three straight games.
From there, the Brown and Gold kept up the offensive pressure. Bowling Green made a diving save on another Peters shot in the 24th minute and had to make another diving effort on a
Brianna Langelaan shot in the 36th minute.
Despite the pressure from Western Michigan, Bowling Green would find the equalizer off a corner kick in the 39th minute. The ball bounced around in the box and eventually found its way into the back of the net. The two teams would enter halftime tied at 1-1.
SECOND HALF
Both offenses struggled to get going in the second half, but Martin had a shot miss just over the bar in the 53rd minute. Martin tried her luck again a little bit later, just missing the net on the chance.
Langelaan fired a great shot on net in the 78th minute, but BG was there to keep it out of the net. WMU played strong defense on a corner kick in the 83rd minute, getting the ball out of trouble and down the field.
Down the stretch, Peters would get one last opportunity for the Brown and Gold, but her shot missed the goal. The two teams would settle for a draw.
