Women's Soccer Extends MAC Unbeaten Streak to 24 Games

OXFORD, Ohio – The Western Michigan women's soccer team battled back from a pair of deficits to defeat Miami (OH) 3-2 on Thursday night. The win was WMU's fifth straight and extended the team's MAC unbeaten streak to 24 games.

Abby Werthman contributed on every Bronco goal, scoring once and adding two assists. Avery Peters and Meredith Vance were the other goal scorers in the match.

FIRST HALF
Both defenses held strong early in the game, as the first shot came just under five minutes into the match. Werthman had her shot blocked out front of the net. Madi Canada would get another shot a few minutes later, but it missed over the net.

Miami's first shot of the game came just under 12 minutes into the first half. That opportunity missed wide of the net. The RedHawks would eventually get on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.

That lead wouldn't last long, as the Broncos fought right back and scored late in the opening half. Werthman buried a shot into the corner of the net to tie the game. The tally was her team-leading fifth of the season.

SECOND HALF
Miami would push back in front less than two minutes into the second half, but it was all Broncos from there. About 11 minutes into the second half, Avery Peters tallied her second career goal off of an assist from Werthman. That tied the game at 2-2.

Just a few minutes later, Vance fired a shot that hit the crossbar and bounced into the net. Her second career goal put the Brown and Gold in front 3-2 in the 62nd minute.

WMU continued to apply pressure, getting a really strong look from Brianna Langelaan in the 78th minute. Her attempt missed just wide of the net. Down the stretch, the RedHawks would look for the equalizer. Western Michigan would lock down on defense to take home a 3-2 victory.
