Western Michigan Wins Third-Straight MAC FAR Academic Achievement Award

CLEVELAND – For the third-straight season the Western Michigan men's athletic program has been named the winner of the Mid-American Conference Men's Faculty Athletics Representative (FAR) Academic Achievement Award.

WMU has now won the honors 10 times overall and seven of the last 10 seasons.

"In today's intercollegiate athletics landscape, to be recognized for retaining and graduating our athletes at the highest academic level is an immeasurable pride point," said Western Michigan Vice President / Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae. "This speaks to the hard work of our student-athletes, and the championship culture our coaches have established in retaining these excellent representatives of our campus."

The FAR Awards are designed to recognize the Conference institution with the highest overall combination of both grade point average (GPA) and Academic Progress Rate (APR) rank by gender.  The GPA's were based upon the 2024-25 academic year.

The Conference FAR's worked with the Athletic Academic Advisors to compute an award that best represents the academic achievement of student-athletes in a competitive setting. The FAR Awards are given to those institutions' male and female programs with the highest overall combination of GPA and APR within the Conference.  Only MAC sponsored sports are used.

The Bronco baseball team posted a 3.594 GPA, while the men's tennis team posted a 3.712. Those two, along with the WMU men's basketball team posted perfect APR rates of 1000.
