KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Western Michigan University Athletics sits at the top of the Mid-American Conference (MAC), ranks second among Group of 5 schools and 69th overall in the winter standings of the 2024-25 Learfield Director's Cup.
"After an historic 2023-24 where we topped the Mid-American Conference in the Learfield Director's Cup for the first time in our history, we are proud of the extraordinary efforts of our Fall and Winter sport programs who have picked up right where we left off in this important measurement of success," said Western Michigan Vice President/Director of Athletics
Dan Bartholomae. "It is particularly energizing to see the community rally around this effort in supporting our department and ensuring that this type of success can be sustained for many years."
After a Fall that saw all five of WMU's sports make NCAA Tournament appearances, the winter followed with even more history being made.
The Bronco Winter Season Highlights Include:
- Ice Hockey: Won the program's first-ever NCAA National Championship. Also winning the NCHC Regular Season Championship and the NCHC Tournament Championship for the first time.
- Men's Basketball: Made it to the MAC Tournament for the second-straight season.
- Women's Basketball: Made it to the MAC Tournament for the second-straight season.
- Gymnastics had three individuals compete at the NCAA Regional Championship in Alabama.
Western Michigan's outstanding performance across its fall and winter sports has positioned the program for continued success in the Directors' Cup standings, showcasing its strong culture of excellence and competitive spirit.
The Learfield Directors' Cup, developed by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today, ranks collegiate athletic departments based on their performance in NCAA Championships. Schools earn points based on their postseason finishes.
