KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Mid-American Conference announced its weekly track and field awards, and Western Michigan took home both honors this week.
Sandra Ferrari and
Mabinty Kebe were honored for their outstanding performances at the Clark Wood Open.
Ferrari was named the league's Field Athelte of the Week after dominating in the long jump. She finished third in the event with a leap of 6.16 meters. That was a season-best performance for her and currently stands as the second best mark in the MAC. Along with that, Ferrari now ranks 27th in the NCAA East Region, which puts her in prime position to qualify for the regional meet.
The Colombia native pushed herself into third in school history with the jump and will look to make her second consecutive appearance at the NCAA East Regional Meet next month. The sophomore finished second in the long jump at last year's MAC Championships.
Kebe continued her sensational senior season, winning the 400-meter hurdles with a PR time of 58.33. She is now first in the MAC and 43rd in the entire NCAA in the event. That time also pushed her into eighth all-time in program history. She is in line to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Meet for the second consecutive season.
The Columbus, Ohio native is the defending MAC Champion in the event and finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Across all of her events, she helped the Broncos collect 17 points at last year's MAC Championships.
