TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team picked up a crucial road win in Mid-American Conference play and completed the regular season sweep of Toledo in a 5-2 in over the Rockets on Saturday afternoon.
The Broncos started off by taking the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The top pairing of
Brogan Pierce and
Drew Evans dispatched Poonthong Komolpisut, 6-2 to gain the early advantage.
Jack Davison and
Ashton Adesoro then clinched the point with a 7-5 win over Joshua Mackey and Lucas Britez.
With the 1-0 lead in singles, WMU quickly made it 2-0 thanks to senior
Anton Arzhankin. Arzhankin dispatched Komolpisut 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Mattias Olivero got the Rockets on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Pierce at No. 3. Freshman
Alex Antonopoulos made it 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Mackey at No. 5 before sophomore
Matej Kajzer clinched the match win with a 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-3) win over Britez at No. 6.
Oscar Corwin scored WMU's fifth and final point with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 win over Cole Cozens.Â
Western Michigan heads back on the road to take on Ball State on Friday at 1 p.m.Â
