KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan gymnastics team heads to Eastern Michigan for a non-conference meet on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the Eagles and Wilberforce.
The meet can be watched live on ESPN+.
The Broncos are coming off one of their best performances of the season in Sunday's score of 195.300 in the win over Northern Illinois and Wisconsin-Whitewater. In the meet, WMU record the second-best team bars score in program history at 49.275. Freshman
Reilan Garvey and sophomore
Julie Korfhage shared the title after both posting career-high scores of 9.875. Sophomore
Reese Samuelson and senior
Molly Freeman had scores of 9.850 and
DonnaKathryn Roy had a score of 9.825.Â
CLEAN SWEEP
Western Michigan swept the Mid-American Conference weekly awards after their performance against NIU and UWW. Senior
Cassie St. Clair was named the MAC Specialist of the Week. St. Clair scored a 9.900 to win on floor and then tied for second on vault with a season-high of 9.850. Freshman
Reilan Garvey was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week. Garvey won the all-around for the first time in her career, scoring a career-high of 39.200. She won on bars and beam and also had a career-high score on floor.Â
CRUNCH TIME
Western Michigan heads into Thursday's meet ranked 42nd in the nation according to RoadToNationals.com. The Broncos need to climb to the top 36 to make the NCAA Tournament. WMU's Team NQS is 194.960, with Central Michigan holding the 36th and final spot with a current NQS of 195.245.Â
ONE LAST TIME
Western Michigan returns home to host Illinois, Central Michigan and Wilberforce next Saturday at 4 p.m. The Broncos will be hosting a Podium Meet for the first time in program history at University Arena. Tickets are on-sale at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets. The meet will bring the two-highest ranked programs the Broncos have competed against this season, with the Fighting Illini ranked 25th and the Chippewas ranked 36th.Â
At the conclusion of the meet and before the awards are announced, the Broncos will honor their Senior Class.Â
