KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team dropped an 86-57 decision to Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at University Arena.
JaVaughn Hannah led the way for the Broncos (9-18, 6-8 MAC) with a season-high 19 points, while
Chansey Willis Jr. tallied 10 points and handed out a team-high four assists. Hannah and
Donovan Williams secured a team-leading five rebounds apiece.
Six consecutive points helped Western Michigan get out to a 9-4 edge in the opening three-plus minutes of the contest. Central Michigan (12-15, 5-9) countered with an 11-2 run to move ahead, 15-11.
Just past the halfway mark of the opening stanza, Hannah connected on a jumper to close the gap to 21-19. The Chippewas ripped off the next eight points in a row to push their lead to 10, 29-19. With the margin at 32-25, the visitors rattled off 14 of the final 16 points of the half to take a 46-27 advantage into the locker room.
A few minutes into the second half, Hannah forced a CMU turnover and threw down a dunk to make it 50-33. The Broncos drew to within 17 on a couple of other occasions after halftime, but could get no closer.
Western Michigan connected on 21-of-59 (35.6 percent) from the floor, while CMU went 32-of-61 (52.5 percent) for the afternoon.
