Hockey Earns Most First-Place Votes in Program History

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – After earning a sweep of Omaha this past weekend, Western Michigan was able to solidify itself among the nation's best in the latest national polls. 

The Broncos checked in at No. 3 in both the USCHO and USA Hockey/The Rink Live polls. WMU collected a program-best 16 first-place votes in the USCHO poll, while earning 1 FPV in the USA Hockey poll. Western Michigan has been ranked in the top five of each of the last eight polls. 

Joining the Broncos in the national polls were Denver, Arizona State, North Dakota and Colorado College. Omaha was receiving votes. Western Michigan is 22-5-1 overall and 15-2-1 in NCHC play this season. WMU leads the conference standings with 45 total points. 

Western Michigan has a pivotal road series against Arizona State this weekend. The two teams will open the series on Friday at 9 PM EST at Mullett Arena. This will be the only meeting of the regular season between the two teams.
