VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Western Michigan men's basketball team lost at Valparaiso, 84-55, on Saturday afternoon.
Trey Lewis paced Western Michigan (3-5) with 13 points, while
Jalen Griffith came close to a double-double with nine points and a career-high nine assists.
Hudson Ward led the Broncos on the glass with six rebounds to tie his career high.
Valparaiso (5-2) used a 12-0 run to get out to a 13-4 lead in the early stages of the contest. At 15-8, the Beacons ran off 11 of the next 13 to extend the margin to 26-10. Valpo canned a three-pointer in the final seconds of the period to take a 37-17 cushion into the locker room.
Western Michigan hit a pair of three-pointers in the opening minute of the second half to spark an 8-0 run which closed the gap to 37-25. Valpo's lead stayed between 12 and 18 until a six-point burst upped the margin to 60-39 with 8:30 to play. WMU got no closer than 18 for the remainder of the contest.
The Broncos shot 38.2 percent (21-of-55) from the field for the afternoon, while Valparaiso connected on 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor.
