KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Western Michigan University Athletics has risen to the top of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) and ranks second among Group of 5 schools in the fall standings of the 2024-25 Learfield Directors' Cup. The Broncos also finished ahead of 24 Power 4 schools. This marks a historic achievement for the Broncos, as all five fall sports teams earned NCAA postseason appearances.
"Our coaches, staff and student-athletes are at the center of this spectacular accomplishment," said Vice President/Director of Athletics,
Dan Bartholomae. "After finishing first in the MAC in the Learfield Directors' Cup in 2023-24 for the first time in our history, it was our goal to continue that momentum into the academic year and after an historic Fall we are proud to be back on top. The Climb continues, and we continue to cheer on our Winter and Spring sports in accomplishing new goals"
The Broncos fall season highlights include:
- Women's Soccer: Captured both the MAC Regular-Season and Tournament Championships, advancing to the NCAA Tournament.
- Volleyball: Secured the MAC Tournament Championship and competed in the NCAA Tournament.
- Football: Played in Salute to Veterans Bowl
- Men's Soccer: Earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the second round.
- Cross Country: Had an All-Region performer at NCAA Regionals
Western Michigan's outstanding performance across its fall sports has positioned the program for continued success in the Directors' Cup standings, showcasing its strong culture of excellence and competitive spirit.
The Learfield Directors' Cup, developed by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today, ranks collegiate athletic departments based on their performance in NCAA Championships. Schools earn points based on their postseason finishes, with the fall standings setting the stage for year-long recognition.
With momentum from a record-breaking fall, the Broncos are poised to maintain their place among the nation's elite as the 2024-25 academic year continues.
