KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan University women's basketball team will host Central Michigan University for Alumni Day -- Sponsored by Advia Credit Union on Saturday, January 25. Tipoff is slated at 1:00 PM and the game will be available on ESPN+.
Last Time Out
The WMU women's basketball team defeated Bowling Green State University on the road 63-60 on Wednesday. The victory marked head coach Shane Clipfell's 180th victory with the Brown and Gold which set the all-time wins record for the women's basketball program.
During the contest, junior Marina Asensio scored a game-high 19 points, while graduate student Hannah Spitzley followed with 18 points in the winning effort. Facing an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter, the Broncos shot a blistering 77.78% from the field, including a perfect 3-3 from distance to capture the comeback victory.
Scouting Central Michigan
CMU enters the Saturday with a 7-11 record (3-4 MAC) after earning a 3-2 record over their last five games. In their previous contest versus Kent State, the Chippewas lost to the Golden Flashes 77-56 on Wednesday. In the defeat, senior Jess Lawson paced CMU with 14 points and grabbed four rebounds, while freshman Madi Morson added 12 points. This season, Lawson and Morson pace CMU with a combined scoring average of 12.1 points per game.
Series History
Since the 2021-22 season, WMU carries a 5-1 advantage over CMU. The Broncos are looking to win their sixth game in seven matchups over Central Michigan for the first time since the 2004-05 through 2007-08 seasons.
