EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Western Michigan men's tennis team fell short at No. 23 Michigan State, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos (3-2) put pressure on the Spartans early thanks to a quick 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles by
Anton Arzhankin and
Alex Antonopoulos over Matthew Forbes and Taryn Alazmeh. Shortly after MSU tied it up with a win at No. 1 and clinched the point with a 6-4 win at No. 3.
In singles, sophomore
Ashton Adesoro picked up WMU's lone point. Play at No. 2, he earned a 6-3 win in the first set over Vuk Radjenovic. Radjenovic then took the second set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (10-4), The match had to be settled with a super tie-breaker, which Adesoro handily won 10-2.
The Broncos are back in action on Friday hosting Grand Valley State in a double-header beginning at 9:30 a.m. The second match will be played at 4:30 p.m. after the conclusion of the WMU women's tennis team's match against GVSU.
