KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- After two weeks away from home, the Western Michigan gymnastics team welcomes New Hampshire and Fisk for its first home meet of the season on Sunday at 1 p.m. at University Arena.
Tickets are available at www.wmubroncos.com or at the door. A live stream is also available at www.wmubroncos.com/watch.
LAST WEEK
Western Michigan made the short trip to Battle Creek for the Next Level Gymnastics Podium Challenge at Kellogg arena. WMU was defeated by Pitt, George Washington and Illinois State.
TWICE IS NICE
Western Michigan has competed at two meets so far this season and in both of them, a Bronco has taken the top spot on beam.
In the season-opener at No. 11 Michigan State it was sophomore
Emily Krzciok taking the top spot after a career-high score of 9.900. At the Next Level Podium Challenge, it was sophomore
Reese Samuelson claiming first place after a career-best score of 9.825. Both earned their wins in similar fashion with each posting career-bests and both having competed officially just once their freshman years.
A FIRST WITH FISK
Fisk competing at University Arena on Sunday marks the first time that the Broncos gymnastics program has hosted a Historically Black College or University. Fisk University is located in Nashville, Tenn., and was founded in 1866. The gymnastics program officially started competing in the NCAA in 2023 and is currently the lone HBCU in the sport. But that will change in 2026 when Wilberforce officially starts competing at the NCAA level. Wilberforce makes a trip to University Arena to compete alongside the Broncos, Illinois and Central Michigan on Saturday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
STRONG START
Western Michigan is off to a strong start as a team on vault. Through the first two meets, WMU is averaging a team score of 48.700 on vault and is tied with Eastern Michigan for the top average in the MAC. Individually, senior
Halle Faulkner is tied for the second-highest average in the conference at 9.800. She is also tied for the second-best high score of the season so far at 9.825. Fellow senior
Cassie St. Clair is also near the top, ranking fourth in average at 9.787.
ON THE HORIZON
Western Michigan opens MAC competition next Sunday at Ball State, taking on the Cardinals at 1 p.m.
