Case Collects Third Straight Double-Double in Setback Against #13 Kansas

MILWAUKEE – Western Michigan setter Logan Case notched her third straight double-double in a 3-0 loss (25-22, 25-22, 25-20) to #13 Kansas on Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee.

Case handed out 38 assists and registered 10 digs to collect a double-double for the third straight contest. The fifth-year set up Keona Salesman for a match-high 15 kills, while Julia Marr was also in double-figures with 12 kills for the Brown and Gold. Salesman and Marr have both had double-digit kills in each of WMU's first four contests of the season.
 
Andelyn Simkins led Western Michigan's defensive effort with a team-high 17 digs.
 
Western Michigan got off to a strong start as it opened up an 8-4 advantage in the first set. Kansas answered with five in a row to grab a 9-8 edge. The Broncos countered with four of the next five to move back ahead, 12-10. WMU maintained the upper hand until four straight put the Jayhawks on top 22-19. The Brown and Gold got back to within one at 22-21 and again at 23-22, but KU was able to hold on to take the first frame, 25-22.
 
A 6-1 run helped the Jayhawks get out to a 10-6 lead in the second set. WMU fought back with an 8-3 stretch to grab a 17-16 edge. With the Broncos on top 19-18, Kansas tallied five of the next six to regain the advantage, and went on to again take the frame by the score of 25-22.
 
Western Michigan tallied four in a row to break an early deadlock and take a 10-6 advantage in the third set. Kansas answered with five of the next six to get back level, 11-11. Tied again at 17-17, the Jayhawks used a 5-2 spurt to nudge ahead once more, 22-19. After an Amanda Glanton kill brought the Brown and Gold to within two, 22-20, KU rattled off the next three to put the match away.
 
The Broncos take on another ranked opponent on Sunday afternoon as they battle #24 Marquette. First serve is slated for 2 pm.
