KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Western Michigan volleyball team saw its run of 20 consecutive regular season Mid-American Conference victories come to an end in a 3-0 loss (26-24, 35-33, 25-16) to Buffalo on Saturday at University Arena.

Logan Case nearly notched her seventh double-double of the season, as she handed out 37 assists and notched nine digs. With her 37 assists, Case moved past former Akron setter Kim Schaper (1996-99) for fourth on the MAC's all-time career assists list.
Julia Marr paced the Western Michigan attack with 15 kills in the contest. The Broncos tied their season high with 10 service aces, with
Andelyn Simkins' season-high five leading the way.
On the defensive side of the ball, Simkins recorded a team-high 15 digs.
Reeghan Boyer and
Carley Piercefield chipped in with eight digs apiece. Marr and
Mary Clare Brusek each contributed a team-high four blocks.
Buffalo got out to a 9-5 lead in the opening frame, but a five-point burst then put the Broncos in front, 14-12. At 19-17, the Bulls tallied four in a row to start a 7-1 surge which put them back on top, 24-20. Western Michigan fought off four straight set points to draw level at 24-24, but UB withstood the rally and eked out the first, 26-24.
It was again the visitors who grabbed the early advantage in the second, as they built a five-point cushion, 11-6. A 7-2 response got the Brown and Gold back even, 13-13. Buffalo then used a 5-1 stretch to regain the lead, 18-14. The Bulls had WMU on the ropes, 24-22, but the Broncos were able to tie it back up at 24-24 to keep the frame alive.
The teams continued to trade points back and forth, and a Marr kill gave Western Michigan a 32-31 edge with a chance to close it out. However, back-to-back errors followed by a UB service ace gave the Bulls a 35-33 set victory and a 2-0 lead in the contest.
The Broncos started out fast in the third, notching seven of the frame's first eight points. With the margin at 9-5, Buffalo ripped off eight in a row to go ahead, 13-9. Still leading by four, 18-14, the Bulls tallied three in a row to begin a 7-2 run which closed out the set and the match.
Western Michigan hits the road next weekend for a two-match series at Bowling Green. First serve for the series opener against the Falcons is slated for 6 pm on Friday night.
