Colin Welsh Earns MVC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

MISSOURI – The Missouri Valley Conference announced its players of the week Tuesday afternoon. For the week of Monday, September 16, through Sunday, September 22, Western Michigan men's soccer senior goalkeeper Colin Welsh was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week. With his selection, Welsh has added a second MVC Defensive Player of the Week honor to his 2024 resume.

This week, Welsh led WMU to a 1-1 tie against TopDrawerSoccer's #25 Dayton on Wednesday, September 18, and a 2-1 win over MVC foe Evansville on Sunday to help extend the men's soccer team's unbeaten streak to 30 games without a loss.

Overall, Welsh conceded only two goals while facing a combined 24 shots from Dayton and Evansville this past week.

Behind Welsh's success protecting the Brown and Gold's net, the men's soccer team has the best goals allowed average in the MVC at .778 per game. WMU also boasts the greatest scoring margin in the conference at + 1.44. Welsh rounds out his impressive resume ranking second in the MVC in save percentage (.800) and shutouts (2) as of Tuesday morning.
