Football Announces Future Games With Boise State and Rice

KALAMAZOO, Mich. –The Western Michigan football program has announced future non-conference games with Boise State, Rice, Georgia Southern, and FIU, securing new home games for the 2026, 2027, 2031, and 2033 seasons. The Broncos will also have six home games in 2025, including a match-up with North Texas on September 6 in a game previously announced.

"Waldo Stadium continues to provide our football program the best atmosphere in the MAC with the most loyal and dedicated fans," said Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Bartholomae. "In an intercollegiate athletics scheduling landscape that has shifted significantly, it remains our priority to bring high quality home games to our schedule and we look forward to hosting the Broncos of Boise State in 2026, followed by Rice, Georgia Southern and FIU."

WMU has also announced date changes in games against Illinois (moved from September 20 to September 13, 2025), Tennessee (from 2026 to September 18, 2027), and Rhode Island (from September 13 to September 27, 2025).

The first-ever meeting between the Western Michigan Broncos and the Boise State Broncos will be on September 26, 2026, at Waldo Stadium. WMU played on the blue turf of Albertson Stadium in the 2014 and 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl, but the first game against BSU on the blue turf will be September 22, 2029.

The second all-time meeting between WMU and Rice takes place on September 19, 2026. The Broncos and the Owls met previously in the 2008 Texas Bowl, a 38-14 win for Rice. The 2026 game will be the first regular season game between the two schools. Owls will make the return trip to Kalamazoo on September 25, 2027.

The Broncos and the Golden Panthers do battle for the first time on September 13, 2030, at Pitbull Stadium in Miami. WMU hosts FIU on Sept. 10, 2033. Western Michigan hosts Georgia Southern on September 13, 2031, and the Broncos will return the trip on September 23, 2034.

Western Michigan has also added an away game at Illinois on September 4, 2032.

The Broncos welcome Bethune-Cookman this Saturday for the 2024 home opener at 6:30 p.m. The game is WMU's annual CommUniverCity celebration. Tickets are available to all WMU home games at www.wmubroncos.com/tickets.
