KALAMAZOO, Mich. – For the first time since 2019, the Western Michigan track and field team will send multiple athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. 

In total, four Broncos were able to earn their spots in the competition. Kayla Schiera (3K Steeplechase), Sandra Ferrari (Long Jump), Mabinty Kebe (400M Hurdles) and Bri'Yanna Robinson (Shot Put) will compete in Lexington, Ky. on May 23 and 25, looking to earn a spot in the NCAA Championship meet. 

Schiera has been a dominant athlete this season, breaking multiple school records and posting various other top-10 times in program history. She is the Broncos' school record holder in the 3K steeplechase, boasting a time of 10:00.06. That was the winning time at the MAC Outdoor Championships this past weekend and currently sits at No. 8 in the region and No. 16 in the nation. She earned First Team All-MAC honors earlier this week. 

In the long jump, Ferrari will represent the Broncos, as she qualified with a mark of 6.21 meters. She ranks in the top three in program history in the event and finished second at the MAC Championships this past weekend. Ferrari is No. 29 in the east region in the long jump. 

Kebe will hit the track in the 400-meter hurdles. She is fresh off of a conference championship in the event, concluding the race with a time of 59.12. That time was good for 10th in program history and is the No. 44 time in the east region. Kebe was named First Team All-MAC earlier this week. 

Last but not least is Robinson, who will compete in the shot put. Her top mark of the season is 15.89 meters, which sits at No. 35 in the east region. She holds the school record in the event and placed fourth at the MAC Championships this past weekend. She also took fourth in the discus.
