Three Broncos Earn All-MAC Honors

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Following the Outdoor Mid-American Conference Track and Field Championships, the league announced its All-Conference selections. Kayla Schiera, Mabinty Kebe and Sandra Ferrari were among the selections.

Schiera collected All-MAC First Team honors. She was tremendous in her two events this past weekend, starting with a win in the 3K steeplechase. She dominated the field, winning the event by more than 13 seconds. In the process, she broke her own school record and nearly broke the meet record. Her time of 10:00.06 sits at No. 8 in the East Region and No. 16 in the NCAA.

Following her performance in the 3K steeplechase, she went on to grab fourth in the 5,000-meter run. She crossed the finish line in a time of 16:49.00, which ranks seventh in program history. In total, she earned 15 points for the team, helping the Broncos to their best team finish since 2014.

Kebe also garnered All-MAC First Team recognition after totaling 15 points across two events for the Brown and Gold. First, she was able to grab the winning time in the 400-meter hurdles, beating the field by more than a second. She had the only time under one minute, and her time sits at No. 10 in program history.

Along with that, Kebe finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.81. During the prelims, Kebe moved into No. 10 in program history in the event. Her performance helped the Broncos score more points than the last three years combined.

Ferrari was selected to the All-MAC Second Team after a pair of runner-up finishes this past weekend. She started with a second-place finish in the long jump, where she posted a mark of 6.01 meters. She will now compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries in the event.

Following her strong performance in the long jump, she was just as good in the 100-meter hurdles. Ferrari claimed second place with a time of 13.57, which was just .02 seconds behind the winner. During the prelims, she moved into second in program history in the event.

Schiera, Kebe and Ferrari will all be in action at the NCAA East Preliminaries next week. The women's competition will begin on Thursday, May 23 and conclude on Saturday, May 25.
