BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Western Michigan women's tennis team improved to 3-2 in Mid-American Conference play after a 6-1 road win at Buffalo on Friday.
DOUBLES
The Bulls swept doubles play to take a 1-0 lead into singles with a 6-4 wins at No. 1 and No. 2. Ambre Amat and Esmee Andersen defeated WMU's top pair of
Lindsey Zieglar and
Valeriya Monko, while Azra Deniz Comlek and Laura Koralnik took down
Audrey Smitek and
Julia Frazier.
SINGLES
But that was it for points for the Bulls as the Broncos dominated singles play. Monko tied up the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Koralnik. Shortly after,
Karin Hamilton gave WMU a 2-1 lead with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Comlek at No. 2. The lead jumped to 3-1 with
Maya Perkucin defeating Andersen 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5, while
Polina Khotko sealed the match win with a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Amat at No. 4. Smitek and Zieglar then added wins at No. 6 and No. 1 to complete the singles sweep.
Western Michigan returns home on Sunday to host Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. Weather permitting, the match will take place outside at Sorensen Courts.
